Drama

The Drama sub committee produces a variety of productions and events ranging from our large scale productions at Hertford Theatre to smaller events in our Studio Theatre at Bentley House. For Hertford Theatre, we select plays with a wide public appeal. Our studio theatre is well suited to material for drama enthusiasts from our membership and their guests.

Productions in recent years have ranged from serious drama such as Shadowlands (Winner of 2013 Hertford Theatre Week) and period comedies Much Ado About Nothing and When We Are Married, the poignant Ladies in Lavender; (winner of the 2018 Hertford Theatre Week), two stage versions of the ever-popular The Vicar of Dibley; and, most recently Deckchairs.

We regularly win drama awards locally at Hertford Theatre Week and at Welwyn Drama Festival and also at regional level with the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA). Although the society organises Hertford Theatre week, the adjudication is by an independent professional Adjudicator who is completely impartial and our society have to apply to be included like any other society.
